Playing Catch-up Again

I've had several posts in Draft form for the past month and finally finished them and added all the pictures. So I'm finally caught up again, you can scroll down if you want to see how we spent our October. I have some really cute video from Thanksgiving that I will posting next.

Yes We Can

I didn't think I was going to write anything about the recent election but since this is a family journal of some sort and this has been such a big deal in our house, I've decided to document it.

For those that know me, I'm sure you are aware how excited I am by the results of this election. I am definitely inspired by what this entire election and upcoming presidency could mean. I'm proud to have been part of such an amazing event.

I read the following entry on a blog I read and he said it so much better than I ever could, so I'm quoting it here:

"I think most of the people who didn’t vote for Obama made that choice based on perfectly valid reasons such as not liking his tax plan or preferring a candidate with more political experience. My general feeling is that the ignorant voters — the ones who couldn’t get past his name, or his race, or some other molehill that they made into a mountain — were relatively few.

There is reason to be upbeat even if you didn’t want an Obama presidency. Obama has unquestionably inspired more enthusiasm and optimism, particularly among young people, than any candidate in recent memory. And as any political, business, or military leader can tell you, positive morale among the rank and file can make all the difference in the world between an operation that slugs along inefficiently and one that hums with energy and vitality.

Obama has been elected by a constituency that is genuinely passionate about him — and, by extension, about America and her potential. People who were once apathetic or cynical about government have found a reason to be interested and hopeful. Increased hopefulness and positive thinking is good for the country, regardless of who inspired it.

I don’t think they will follow Obama blindly. The honeymoon will end, the daily grind will settle in, and even Obama’s supporters will find they don’t agree with him on every subject. The point is that we love our president. We’re proud of him. We like what he stands for. We like the idea of him representing America to the world. We have had the following video on repeat in our house this past week. Aida already has the chorus memorized. :)

Happy Halloween!

This was the first Halloween where Aida finally understood what was going on and I don't think she could quite believe her good luck. Once she figured out that all she had to do was say "Trick or Treat" and strangers would give her free candy, she could have gone all night. We took her to a Munchkin Masquerade Parade and around the neighborhood with some friends. The next morning, she immediately wanted to put her costume back on and go trick or treating again. And really, isn't she the cutest little monkey you've ever seen??
